I've tried it a dozen time with no problems, only suggestion I'd make is to get a short USB extension lead so the reader doesn't apply any force on the adaptor plug from bumping it etc. However CF only card readers are REALLY hard to find, everything is multi card now.įinally found some $5 USB2.0 CF only readers on ebay here: I think using a multi card reader upsets the OS causing it to swap slots - thus 'unsafely' removing the card.Īny way, I believe I've found the solution, get a CF only card reader.

Unlike Vista, Win 7/8, tablet OS's still insist these cards to be 'safely removed'. Tried using other multi readers same deal. Tried it using a SD card in the reader as well - same problem. This was with 32gb Lexar Pro 1000x, tried various Sandisk cards and sizes, same problem. AliExpress has carefully selected a few good options, just waiting for you to place an order, AliExpress, your good partner in life.

I got a nasty surprise, whilst it initially seemed to work, I found the card would 'unload' for no apparent reason, then re-load, but the worst part was that this would trash all the images on the card, and I'd end up with a 'Lost.dir' folder, which recovery software could not restore - ouch. Smart Card Reader Android is on sale, you may not have time to pick, but its okay, there is AliExpress to keep you out of trouble. Rather than lugging extra hardware, I thought my tablet might be useful for reviewing and backing up (onto micro SD cards) when travelling, so before my last trip (to Cuba) I tested using the Samsung USB adaptor plug with a typical card reader (SD/CF). Whilst my situation involves a Samsung Tab2 10.1, I believe the same nasty problem has been reported with many other tablets, iPads as well. Since fewer cameras use CF cards, and my 50D and 1DX only use CF, thought I'd share this with my Canon compadres.
